In 2020, we launched the "Kokoro Support Project" to provide support, with feelings of respect and gratitude, to medical service providers fighting against COVID-19. Under the project, we have made various types of donations, including face shields, beauty products, and money. We have also participated in "# Hirogare Arigato-no-Wa," a project promoted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to ensure thorough infection prevention measures and eliminate discrimination and prejudice against those involved in COVID-19, including medical service providers and patients.
we have provided in-kind support, such as everyday goods, and made donations through local governments and volunteer organizations.
We participated in the international charity event "Love Knows No Borders," initiated by Qian Wei, wife of China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, to help children needing support in disadvantaged areas in inland China. This was our third time to participate, following last year’s event.
With cooperation from dental clinics affiliated with the Japan Orthodontic Society, we held wound care makeup* seminars for cleft lip and palate patients several times, in which we proposed makeup techniques to cover surgical damage. Lectures were given to participants so that they can do the makeup for themselves after the completion of the seminars. We are planning to continue to hold seminars for cleft lip and palate patients.

We believe that mental and physical health has a significant impact on beauty. With a strong desire to support the beauty of women from within, we started a Pink Ribbon campaign in 2005. To raise awareness of the importance of breast cancer screening, we have engaged in various activities, including the introduction of workplace breast cancer screening service, the company’s payment for all the screening costs for an employee’s spouse, planning and sales of our original Pink Ribbon Hand Cream, and participation in various events. We have donated a part of the proceeds from hand cream to relevant organizations to further promote the Pink Ribbon campaign.
With the mission of delivering beauty and health to all people, we have obtained Halal certification so that Muslim people can use our products. In April 2021, we launched "HAPPINESS BEAUTE," our first halal cosmetics series made clean with due consideration to safety and reliability, including being free from animal-derived ingredients and animal trials, and certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).
We are proactively working to create a work environment in which both male and female employees can choose their own work style and perform their tasks more enthusiastically. From April 2019, our efforts to promote reform of working practices have been accelerated. Reforms were implemented in 23 areas, including the introduction of a telework system, a flextime system, a paid leave system by the hour, an "F" (menstrual/PMS) leave system and a life support (fertility treatment) leave system and the elimination of the pay deduction system for those working a reduced schedule. We are also proud that the ratio of women in managerial posts is high at 47.5%.
We have been carrying out activities to raise awareness of efforts toward SDGs among university students, who are responsible for the next generation. In 2020, we gave lectures at Senshu University. In 2020, Sophia University abolished its conventional "beauty contest" and, instead, held a "Sophian’s Contest" from fresh perspectives, including the SDGs. Supporting this idea, we have been actively working with Sophia University to address social issues, including promoting SDGs awareness-raising activities via SNS for Sophian’s Contest finalists.
The Okayama Factory, the production site of Momotanijuntenkan, has been actively engaging in 3Rs (Reduce,
Reuse and Recycle) activities for waste management for 10 years. As of 2020, it achieved almost 100% 3Rs
in terms of waste and sludge generated from the factory. Bottles are recycled into raw materials for
glass, plastic products are recycled into solid fuel, waste liquid is recycled into cement fuel/raw
materials, and sludge generated from effluent treatment is converted into compost, some of which was used
to grow lavender on the factory premises.
The Okayama Factory has been registered as a "business establishment declaring the promotion of the
3Rs of plastics," a project launched by the Okayama Prefectural Government.
Meishoku Cosmetic Ltd. is currently shifting away from containers for the MEISHOKU series, a long-time
seller launched 1932, in a phased manner, adopting a package that reduces the amount of plastic used by
about 50%. The REPAIR & BALANCE series has also used eco-friendly, smart containers to reduce waste. The
mail-order RF28 brand has also been working toward development of products and services with a focus on
sustainability, including using FSC-certified paper package.
In other brands of Momotanijuntenkan, active efforts have been made to promote eco-friendly approaches,
including the use of FSC-certified materials for product shipping containers and product packages.
The R&D Department—which is responsible for formulation research and functional research for the development of new products—has been advancing research regarding the formulation and mechanisms that are required by society of the future. To pursue research on formulation needed in an era emphasizing the importance of achieving the SDGs, we have set the definition and scope of "sustainability for formulation development" on our own and have accumulated know-how on the building of formulation.
Momotanijuntenkan’s paper bag, which is offered to customers, has been newly designed. The new paper bag features not only a new pattern and logo design but also the following materials: the base paper is made from trees cut down under a logging and planting program, and plant-derived raw materials are used for ink.
To realize our corporate philosophy of "contributing to the well-being of people by helping them achieve beautiful skin and thereby enriching their mind," we at the Momotanijuntenkan Group consider the health of individual employees to be an important business foundation.
